Board of Education
TECA-SF Board of Education
The Thomas Edison Charter Academy Board of Education is composed of parents and community members who play a vital role in the governance of TECA. They ensure that the students in our school receive the best education possible. The board meets together regularly to make decisions regarding school policies, budget allocations, and educational goals.
Please Join Us
We generally hold our board meetings on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. Meetings are open to all TECA families and community members.
TECA’s collaborative policies, programs, and instructional framework have helped our community bring a vision of educational excellence to life. We are committed to including students, parents, teachers, and our community in our decision-making process.
Translation Services
The board strives to make board meetings accessible to all members of the TECA community. Although we conduct board meetings in English, language interpretation is available upon request. If you would like to attend a board meeting and require language interpretation, please contact (415) 970.3330 ext. 162 as soon as possible, but at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled meeting, and we will make every effort to accommodate your request.
Our Responsibilities
Under the requirements of the State Board of Education, the TECA board is responsible for ensuring that the school:
- implements the provisions of its charter as approved;
- obeys all requirements of federal, state, and local law that apply to the school;
- operates prudently in all respects; and
- provides a sound education for all of its students.

Please note the teacher representative is not a legal member of the board and does not vote on board matters. This individual represents the teachers at board meetings ensuring staff have a voice at the table.
In 2020, the Board of Education approved the establishment of TECA's new Emeritus Board. “Emeritus Board” which is a non-voting body of members who act in an advisory capacity to the board and school administration.
An Emeritus member is an honorific title in recognition of a member’s active participation, financial contribution, or continuing strong interest in the organization. Emeritus members are former board members, and carry no authority or governance power to make decisions or vote with the Board of Education at TECA. Emeritus members volunteer on committees or in other capacities that the Board asks. They act as "Members of the Public” in Board Meetings, unless invited to participate in an agenda item to speak in an advisory capacity.
The Governance & Compliance Committee of the Board of Education at TECA nominates former board members to join the Emeritus Board and the Board approves the nomination.
